I was fortunate enough to be a member of the Commissioning Crew of the 662 in 1968 at Mare Island Naval Shipyard and subsequently made first WESTPAC cruise from October 1969 to May of 1970. The crew was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal and the Korean Winter Campaign Medal.

After four years as an instructor at the FBM School, Naval Submarine Base, New London, Ct. I reported to the Permit. This was my last boat - October 1974 to September 1975 - after which I left the Navy to finish college.
